| Kayaking Victoria
BC extends far beyond the bays, coves and coastline boundaries
of the oceanside city. The region is in close proximity to many
ideal kayaking destinations suited for, both, novice and experienced
paddlers.
Located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island makes Victoria,
B.C. and the surrounding communities an ideal destination and launch
site for day trips and multi day wilderness kayaking tours. Kayak
companies operate in many of the communities, most offering tours
with lessons and guides.
A kayak adventure is a great opportunity to view wildlife, marine
traffic, rugged and city coastlines, islands and islets. There are
many destinations exploring in the protected, calm waters of Victoria
and there are others crossing more challenging currents and tides.
Kayaking adventures could include exploring salt water destinations
like Sidney
Spit, Victoria Inner Harbour,
Portage Inlet, Gorge Waterway or the Esquimalt Lagoon. One of the
better multi day paddling adventures is kayaking over to the nearby
Gulf Islands
and wilderness camp on a sandy beach or stay in a lodge.
Some of the bigger lakes in the area are also used for kayaking
exploration. Often, from late spring to late fall the lake is a
mix of canoes and kayaks. Some touring companies offer lake trips
to Thetis Lake and Beaver
Lake. (more
