Downtown Victoria BC is remembered
in its buildings and heritage. Looking in from the Inner Harbour
of Victoria, the coastline of the city is decorated with old English
architectural buildings spreading inland and stretching out along
the shoreline. Many of these old buildings house a wide assortment
of retail shops, coffee houses, book stores, art galleries and
patio restaurants.
The network of streets and alley-ways, colored
in hanging flower baskets and flags brighten up the indoor and
outdoor shopping and entertainment experiences. The area has theatre
houses, dance clubs, pubs, art gallery showings, movie houses
and much more to keep you busy in the evenings.
The roads of Downtown Victoria work there way back
and forth from the Inner Harbour,
where there is a marina, floatplanes, a walkway, more shops, attractions
and the BC Government Parliament
Buildings.
A whole day is easily spent walking downtown Victoria,
BC wondering around Wharf, Government and Douglas
Streets and the connecting roads and alley-ways. One
of the more popular alleys in the summer is Artist
Alley. An alley lined with west coast artist booths extending
over 2 blocks from the ocean. It is a treat to wonder through
the atrium-like alley with a good cup of java from one of the
nearby coffee houses. It is also good to support our local talent.
Hint, hint... wink, wink.
From Government Street it is a short walk to the
paths, ponds and gardens of Beacon
Hill Park and to the best display of west coast history at
the Royal BC Museum.
Every Visitor to Victoria should park the car and go for a walk
wondering the coastline of Victoria, BC because it is one of the
most beautiful cities in Canada. |
