| The salt and fresh water fishing conditions around Vancouver Island
is prime as the island falls within the path of the fish migrating
routes and it enjoys many large lakes and rivers. In Victoria,
Sooke, Sidney
and Oak Bay
there are river and ocean fishing tour companies and salt water
marinas.
The ocean and fresh water fish charter companies and various marinas
are well versed in the local water routes and fishing holes. The
charter companies in the Victoria region provide tours including
guides who will take you to the fishing holes, plus provide the
fishing equipment, lessons and transportation. You are most, likely
responsible for getting your own fishing license.
Salt water fishing is huge here. The local chinook salmon explores
the Juan de Fuca Strait all year blending in seasonally with migrating
pink, coho, sockeye and chum salmon. If you limit out on salmon
or prefer the battle of a big fish then spend some time in the waters
off of Victoria, Sooke, Sidney and Oak Bay jigging for some halibut.
The lakes and rivers in the region are busy in the summer and winter
months with steelhead and trout. The fall months, the river's population
expands and waterways are busy with migratory salmon runs battling
up rivers to spawn. (more
