| The City of Victoria
and the surrounding communities of Sidney, Oak Bay, Brentwood Bay
and Sooke all have marinas varying in amenities and moorage rates.
Many visitors arrive in Victoria, BC by sea in medium to extremely
large recreational vessels. Most always stay for an extended trip
so to shop the stores, sightsee, take in an adventure and/or lounge
around and take it easy.
The whole southern point of Vancouver Island is a major boating
waterway with some arriving in Victoria by sail, others by motorized
boat. Some of the larger boats with fine accommodations continue
on to explore the rest of the west coast of British Columbia while
others set out on day trips to the Gulf
Islands returning to their base in a Victoria marina.
The west coast region is filled with some of the best rugged untouched
virgin-like coastlines in the world to explore. There are miles
of sandy beaches and plenty of coves and bays to uncover. The networks
of islands and islets provide tons of excitement around every point.
There are plenty of opportunities to view wildlife like Killer Whales,
Black Bears, porpoises, Bald Eagles and dolphins.
There are many popular long haul destinations with Victoria being
a major port in the itinerary. The inside route, between Vancouver
Island and the mainland leads to such destinations as Johnstone
Strait, the waterfalls of Princess
Louise Inlet and the Discovery
Islands. The inside route as well as the outside route, albeit
rougher and not in protected waters lead to popular destinations
like Desolation
Sound, Broughton
Archipelago and Clayoquot
Sound.
Boating and sailing the west coast is a memory you will never forget.
